The estate has a significant collection of works on paper starting with the early exercise drawings of Souza's art school days and ending with his Chemicals--renderings on pre-printed surfaces altered with chemical solutions paints and ink markers to create, or in Souza's language, "transcreate" an altered image, and thus an altered perception of what constitutes art. Works on paper are defined here as any image that has clearly not been created on canvas or masonite (board). The works on paper in the estate range from images made on conventional artists' drawing and sketching papers to works on gift wrap paper, paper napkins and the pre-prrinted paper of newspapers and glossy magazines. The result is a body of work of mixed media, acrylics on paper, oils on paper, pencil and ink on paper, coloured pencil and crayon drawings, traditional pencil and pen drawings, coloured inks on paper, watercolours and gouaches. The Works on Paper section offers a small selection of works in the Souza estate. It focusses primarily on images created with coloured inks, watercolour, gouache, oil, and water colour pencils, to distinguish them from black and white drawings that have been done with pencil and/or ink, and the chemicals, which also have their own section.
