Francis Newton Souza (b.1924
d.2002) |
|
Edwin Mullins wrote in his seminal sixties text on Souza that he was shocked to discover good taste had nothing to do with good art. Mullins wrote bluntly--and courageously--about what constitutes truly great art and what kind of work is, to use his word, "rubbish." He was unequivocal in his belief that Souza was one of the greats. The estate contacted Mr. Mullins following Souza's death and he kindly gave us permission to use any of the text from his monograph. The estate has three works that appear in the Mullins book, listed as being in the artist's collection. The work on this page is one.
