The collection of drawings in the estate is extensive, starting with the early exercises of Souza's art school days. His art school work was in an envelope marked 1940 (he had begun cataloguing drawings by decade and storing them in manilla envelopes). It shows studies of animals, cats and tigers in particular, anatomy lessons and the human model. Souza kept several sketch pads as well as thousands of loose drawings. Some of the drawings in the estate's collection are early studies for paintings which were eventually realized, others are simply drawing for the sake of the drawing itself. more |
